Lakehead UniversityPerhaps your post-secondary plan didn’t go exactly as...well, planned. The good news is, a lot of amazing opportunities can come out of your unexpected situation. Here are 5 tips to open 5 new doors for you...

1. Lakehead University is Still Accepting Applications
For many of our programs, we’re still accepting applications into the summer. Perhaps you didn’t consider Lakehead originally, but it’s not too late to check us out. Lakehead is known for its student-centred approach, and with campuses in both Orillia, ON and Thunder Bay, ON, we offer a comprehensive list of programs for you to choose from.

2. Alternate Offer
If you applied to Lakehead but didn’t get accepted into your program of choice, we will automatically consider you for a related program and extend an alternate offer of admission to you if we’re able. After year one, you may be eligible to transfer into your first program of choice.

3. Gateway
If you didn’t quite meet the minimum admissions average requirement in your application to Lakehead, we might be able to admit you under Gateway. In this case, you could be admitted to the program of your choice (based on meeting all of the posted admission requirements, except the admissions average). In addition to starting university at Lakehead this fall, you will take part in mandatory academic support programming offered throughout your first year. If you are eligible for admission under Gateway, we will let you know in your offer of admission.

4. Upgrading Courses
Lakehead University looks at your best attempt in courses that you decide to re-take in order to improve your average. If you applied to Lakehead and are planning on upgrading courses this summer, let the Admissions Office know what your plan is so that we can re-evaluate your application after receiving your new grades. The deadline to submit grades for any repeated, summer or night school courses is August 16, 2013.

5. College Transfers
Some of you may not quite meet the admission requirements for university, but you do for college. Another pathway to university is through college: attend college first, then transfer to Lakehead to turn your diploma into a degree in as little as one year. Find out all about Lakehead’s college transfer options by visiting our Admissions website.
