Didn’t Get What You Hoped For? Find Your Plan B

HumberIf you’ve finished high school, you know what it’s like to wait for acceptance letters from a college or university. You wait and wait for that envelope to arrive in the mail. You stalk the mail carrier. You check the mail box five times a day.

And finally, the letter comes, but it’s not what you hoped for. The good news is, you still have options!

For a lot of students, getting into the program of their choice is simply a matter of taking a little time to upgrade their skills – and that’s where college and university preparation programs, like Humber’s General Arts and Science diploma, can help you turn Plan B into Plan A.

Take Jamil Jivani, for instance. He may be a Yale Law School student now – but his journey to the Ivy League began with a one-year General Arts and Science certificate from Humber.

"I always wanted to be a lawyer, but I didn't do very well in high school," says Jivani, who, along with being a J.D. candidate at Yale, is also a blogger for The Huffington Post and has served as the president of the Yale Black Law Students Association. "At Humber, my professors were interested in my success, and, over the year, my grades improved and I figured out a plan for my future.”

If you haven’t been accepted into the program of your choice, the one- or two-year G.A.S. program at Humber is a good alternative to an extra year of high school, or enrolling in another program that doesn’t quite fit.

Humber’s G.A.S. programs incorporate classes in liberal arts, like sociology, literature and math, with courses in note-taking and time-management – meaning that when you do figure out your Plan A, you’re fully prepared to take it on.

Credits from Humber’s G.A.S. program can be applied to a number of degree and diploma programs at Humber and many other post secondary institutions, such as the University of Toronto and Bishop’s University.

"When I started out at Humber, I never imagined I would end up at Yale Law School,” says Jivani. “Humber helped me reach my full capabilities and realize my dream."
