Thompson Rivers UniversityGetting through four years of university debt free might seem like an impossible task, but with the help of scholarships it can be easier than you think. Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops BC, awards more than $300,000 a year in entrance scholarships to students, ranging anywhere from $1,000 - $20,000.

“Applying for TRU entrance scholarships has been one of the best investments of my time and well worth the effort!” exclaims Spencer Pallone, future TRU Bachelor of Business Administration student from Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary in Maple Ridge, BC. “There is a common misconception that only the smartest students and high academic achievers get good scholarships, this isn’t true!”

Spencer is a grade 12 student has who worked hard to achieve exemplary grades, has been involved in soccer since a young age, manages his school’s candy and clothing store, and did as much volunteering as possible from walking dogs to coaching spring soccer campus in his community. When it came to applying for scholarships, the small things started to add up.

“I know that school is expensive for everyone, and I am not exempt from that, working hard and dedicating my time to applying for scholarships have paid off. I have been awarded the TRU Ambassador’s Entrance Scholarship worth $20,000", says a very excited Spencer. “Just go for it and apply, there is nothing to lose and a lot of money to gain, TRUST ME!”

The TRU Ambassador’s Entrance Scholarship is given to six students per year who are recognized for their academic excellence, leadership and community service. TRU also offers bursaries to students who may not qualify for scholarships but can show that they have financial need. These bursaries can be used towards tuition, housing, food etc.

Visit the TRU Financial Aid and Awards to learn about our other scholarships and to apply. If you are planning on applying for any of the TRU entrance scholarships, do so by the yearly March 1st application deadline.
