A university should offer you more than just a degree; you should have opportunities to build a resume of experiences while completing your education. At Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC we help you discover a career path, and provide the resources to get real-world experiences and hands on knowledge before you don your cap and gown.

Building a resume of experiences will look different for every student, but most students are choosing Co-operative Education. Currently over 300 TRU students participate in the Co-op Education Program (Co-op). Co-op is a four-credit course that combines on-campus study with off-campus paid work experience. You will be able to apply the knowledge and skills you’ve gained in your classes directly to a work environment. Many students who take advantage of the co-op program are offered permanent positions before they even graduate form TRU!

Building your resume can also include programs that are not-employment related. TRU has many international opportunities for students to gain global experiences - study abroad and field schools are a popular choice for many students. As a TRU student, you have the opportunity to study at over 150 universities around the word and get credit towards your TRU degree. Studying and living in another country is a great addition to your resume!

The reality is that many employers are looking for graduates who have more to show than exceptional grades and co-op and study abroad can achieve this. Also it is a great idea to volunteer, participate in undergraduate research, join clubs and look for practicums and internship opportunities. The more you do in university, the more opportunities you will have when you graduate.

We are now accepting applications for many of our programs starting September 2013. Visit www.tru.ca/apply to apply to TRU for only $26.00. Contact the TRU Welcome Centre with questions or inquiries, or to arrange a visit to campus. Phone 250-828-5006, email tours@tru.ca or go to www.tru.ca/moreinfo.
