One of the exciting advantages of attending Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops, BC is the opportunities available outside of the classroom. New students who started at TRU last fall havenow been in class for one semester and are getting the hang of the day-to-day happenings of university life; juggling classes, midterms, studying for finals and such.

For them, second semester is the time to start looking seriously into opportunities such as co-operative education programs to get hands on experience, volunteer opportunities to enhance their resume, student employment to make some money, and clubs and recreation to get involved on campus and meet new people. These opportunities are great and TRU offers them all, but students often forget or don’t know about the most exciting program the university has to offer, Study Abroad!

Through an extensive network of international partnerships, TRU Study Abroad and Exchange Programs allow students to live and study in a different country for one or two semesters! Credits earned while studying abroad can transfer back to TRU, classes are taught in English and it doesn’t cost more because students pay the same tuition as if theywere on campus at TRU.

Students who choose to study abroad gain a wealth of benefits such as: developing intercultural communication skills, a higher level of self-esteem and confidence, expanded career opportunities and an increase in employability.

Living and studying in another country for an extended period of time may not be for everyone, so TRUalso offers Field Schools for students who want the international experience on a smaller scale. A field school is a TRU credit course, led by a TRU professor, that takes a group of students to another country for study as a group. Field schools are anywhere from two to six weeks in length.

If you are interested in the Study Abroad or Field School programs at TRU, then your first step will be to attend an Information session in the first semester of university next fall.

TRU is now accepting applications for September 2013. pplication information can be found on our home page, www.tru.ca. Contact the Welcome Centre at recruitment@tru.ca or 250.828.5006 for more information about campus visits, program information and help with applications.
