Humber CollegeNot all learning takes place inside a classroom. In fact, sometimes the best learning happens in a different country altogether.

Humber College has several opportunities for students in a variety of programs to study abroad, from full semesters at one of Humber’s partner institutions in Asia, New Zealand, and throughout Europe, to a two-week intensive course in Taiwan, Italy, or France.

Want to leave land behind? Students in Humber’s School of Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism can set sail as part of Humber’s two-week Study at Sea program, taking classes on-board and travelling to different ports of call, including Mexico, Guatemala, and Ecuador. Students enrolled in Study at Sea also participate in volunteer opportunities, such as distributing food and donations for a community in Nicaragua.

Humber also offers international volunteer opportunities through the Alternative Spring Break program. Projects through this program have included building homes in New Orleans and working with orphans in the Dominican Republic.

For Brett Turner, a hospitality management student who spent his fourth semester in France, travelling to a different country was a chance to experience many new things, both with his class and independently.

“We went on a lot of excursions, including Germany’s Black Forest and to a cheese tasting in Strasbourg,” he says. “I was there over two long weekends, so I also travelled to Amsterdam and Madrid. We did classes in Consumer Behaviour, Tourism Geography and French while we were there, so I was able to put my classroom learning into practice every day.”
