Seneca CollegeSo you have an idea of what you want to do with your life and have picked out a program that will help you get there. Great! Now you just need to apply to your chosen school and get accepted to begin what will hopefully be a start to a long and fruitful career. Only the question of how to apply remains.

Colleges like Seneca streamline the process by making much of the program information, such as program availability and admission requirements, available online.

The next step is to pull together any additional material that might be required along with your application and transcript. This could include an application essay, interview, portfolio or test. Do your research to find out about what your chosen program will require of you. If you have to supply an application essay or provide a portfolio, compile all relevant material.

It’s best to brainstorm and write down all of your jobs, volunteer experience and accomplishments. Then, draw from each of these elements that relate to the program and career you seek to enter. Even hobbies and interests can be drawn upon to round out your portfolio as long as you demonstrate how it relates. Not only will this step help with writing a great application essay, if one is required, but it will also help with having something to show if admission into the program requires an interview.

The final step may be writing an application essay. Begin with an introduction outlining why you are interested in that particular program and why you should be accepted. Be sure to consult an essay guide when writing as the quality of your essay will reflect on you as a candidate.

Good luck!
