What? Where? Why? Three Important Questions when Choosing a School.

Choosing a school is an important decision, but it is also one that can be very exciting rather than overwhelming if you approach it in an organized fashion.

What?
If you have an idea of what you want to study, then it’s a good start. Some programs are highly specialized and only offered at certain institutions. If you are looking for a more common program, such as studies in Commerce, then you should narrow down your options.

Where?
Are you looking to study in a university in Canada? In Ontario, perhaps? Well, if that’s the case, a good place to start would be the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC): www.ouac.on.ca. Not only is it the website to apply to Ontario universities, but it also enables you to browse through several programs all at once, searching by university, geographic area or field of study. For example, if you have an interest in Entrepreneurship or Human Resource Management, then you can find these programs under Business Administration and University of Ottawa, as they are offered as Commerce programs at the Telfer School of Management.

Why?
From there, find your way to the relevant university or program website. In this case, students could visit www.telfer.uOttawa.ca to find out more about the school and program, admission requirements and what the student experience is like.

Once you have found a program of interest, for which you would be eligible for admission, add it to your list! Next steps will include applying to universities and receiving offers. This will give you time to visit the universities that interest you, and to find out if they would be a good fit for you, before you accept an offer.
