University of ReginaStarting the school year off on the right foot can greatly improve your grades, reduce stress and help you make the most of your university education. Here are some tips from the experts in our Student Success Office:

1. Start early. It is important to develop an understanding of your course material from the start, which means reading your textbooks before class and reviewing and synthesizing your notes after class. Ask your professors questions as you have them – don’t wait until the end of the semester to figure it out!
2. Make sure you devote enough time to studying. We recommend that for every hour you spend in class you spend at least two hours on your own. If you do this during the semester you will not have to cram for exams.
3. Avoid procrastination! Pace yourself; set goals; switch between subjects; reward yourself and take breaks; and eliminate time wasters like TV and Facebook.
4. Improve concentration by studying in a positive environment and by creating and following a study plan.
5. Use the resources that are available to you! Get to know your professors and use the services provided by your institution. There are counsellors and advisors available on campus to help you make the most of your education.
