Olds CollegeThe time has come. You decided on your career path, filled out the college or university application and your acceptance letter has arrived.

For most students you are overcome with many emotions; excitement, a sense of pride and eventually perhaps some anxiety and worry. What now? The decision you’ve made is very important and your overall success depends on your ability to ensure you do everything possible to achieve your goals.

Don’t panic. The good news is that there are many great tips out there to help students transition to post-secondary and chances are the institution you are attending will offer many of these great opportunities. For example:

  • Attend an orientation. Here at Olds College we offer College Success Skills which is a week-long introduction to college life.
  • Take advantage of services and learning resources. A library, student services, and learning centre are great places to discover.
  • Join a club through a students’ association.
  • Get physically active. Join a fitness centre, take up swimming or join a varsity team.
    • Take advantage of the tools available to you. Set goals, manage your finances and ask for help when needed.Your education is a major investment in both time and money but being prepared and staying focused will help you relax so you can enjoy the benefits of your post-secondary educational experience.
