Students Graduate With More than a Diploma at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University

At Grenfell Campus, students graduate with much more than a diploma.

With an increased emphasis on career development services, the student services department at Grenfell, Memorial University’s west coast campus, provides graduates with the applicable skills they need to land the job of their dreams.

A new mentoring program is about to launch which will provide students with valuable work experience during their final year of studies. Students from any of Grenfell’s undergraduate degree faculties can apply to be matched with potential employers in the student’s field of study.

“The mentoring program is about bridging the gap between education and employment,” said Jennifer McGinn, Grenfell’s Senior Career Development Coordinator. “Through this experience, students will be provided with the one-on-one networking and career experience necessary to compete in the job market.”

The mentoring program will create opportunities for selected students to explore their occupational options. Students are connected with committed professionals in the workplace to gain first-hand knowledge and experience in a field of interest. Mentors can share information about their occupations and offer practical career related experience and advice.

The program will allow students to:

• Explore occupational fields of interest
• Gain first-hand knowledge and experience in a profession
• Create realistic career goals and effective career paths

 This opportunity will also:

• Nurture students to gain confidence in their ability to connect with potential employers
• Develop valuable employment networks

To complement the mentoring program, Grenfell’s Career Development Services facilitate other career services such as learning lunches with industry professionals, employment preparation workshops, interview sessions, and one-on-one career advising.
