Entering college for the first time means many new experiences. From learning the layout of the campus, buying your books and making new friends, it can feel like a whole new world. One new experience that you might not have considered is applying for a scholarship or bursary. That little extra financial help could make your transition easier.

Financial awards are usually awarded on the basis of academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, financial need and special circumstances for specific groups or individuals. At Seneca, there are a variety of awards open to students of all walks from life, for example:

  • Seneca College Board of Governors' Entrance Scholarships
Six scholarships are awarded to students entering Seneca College directly from high school based on high academic standing in their final year. Emphasis is placed on the academic subjects English, Mathematics and Sciences at the Grade 12 level. Application forms are included in the Admissions Handbook all students receive with their acceptance package and must be received in the Financial Aid Office by August 30 of each year.

Many awards have also been established for students in specific circumstances and in various programs throughout the College, such as:

  • Pearson Publishers Scholarship
A $500 scholarship for an Accounting student enrolled in either first or second semester Accounting Basics (ACC120 or ACC220) in the Faculty of Business' Accounting program. The award recipient is to be recommended by Faculty.

You may be eligible for any number of these awards.

“The key is to address all the criteria directly and explain clearly why you are the best candidate for the award,” said Sharon Tracy, Associate Registrar, Financial Aid and Scholarship/Bursary Plans. “You really have to treat it like a job application – do your homework and follow-up.”
