College is more than books, classes and exams. It’s about having fun, making new friends and taking part in new experiences. At Lakeland College, one of the best ways for students to expand and enhance their college experience is by joining one of the many on-campus student clubs. Drama, the environment, rodeo, scuba, international ag tours, recreational sports, or fellowship: Lakeland College has a club for that – along with several other clubs in a range of interests – and previous experience is not required.

“Student clubs are all about participation, personal growth and having fun,” says Rebecca Joseph, President of Lakeland’s Students’ Association at the Vermilion campus. Whether students have previous experience or want to try something out for the first time, there’s always room for them. ”Student clubs also help create a campus environment that is lively, dynamic and engaged,” adds Shelby Longworth, SA President at the Lloydminster campus. “They help boost college pride and energize the campus atmosphere.”

This spring, several club activities are in the works at Lakeland. Here are a few:

In January, the Enviro Club hosts its annual Greenspiel curling event to raise funds for various environmental initiatives. In February, members of the Ag Tour Club pack their bags and fly to Brazil to visit a number of farming and agricultural operations in that country, while members of the Lakeland Collegiate 4-H Club – the first college 4-H club in Canada -- hosts a public speaking competition. In March, several ag clubs including the college’s judging team, Rodeo Club, Ranch Horse Club, Stockman’s Club, and Stock Dog club, get to showcase their talents during Lakeland’s annual Little Royal event.
