It can be hard to motivate yourself to study when you may not see the payoff from your hard work until the end of term. Listed below are some tips to assist you with the studying process:

  1. Start Early. Go through your course outlines as soon as you get them, and mark quiz and exam dates in a calendar.
  2. Review a little bit at a time each day so you do not get overwhelmed.
  3. You know the best times and locations for you to study. Create a study schedule around them.
  4. Reward yourself with mini breaks, but do not leave Facebook or MSN on in the background. They will just distract you.
  5. Pay attention to what type of exam it is. Is the test primarily objective? (multiple choice, true or false)or subjective? (essay questions, short answer) Knowing what type of exam it is will dictate whether you will be memorizing facts, or studying theoretical concepts.
  6. Review past test results to learn from your mistakes, and successes.
  7. Go to class! That way you will learn the material twice: once in class, and once when you review it, which ensures you will retain more of the information.
  8. Be sure to review concepts/subjects that were unclear to you in class.
  9. Organize a study group, and actually study!
  10. Remember the payoff. Studying effectively will improve your grades!
