There are many ways to connect with the people around you, ranging from the more traditional to the most current. Prospective students can take advantage of these tools and resources to help make decisions about where to pursue a post-secondary education.

For example, Seneca’s YouTube channel allows students to hear about the Seneca College experience directly from those who know – graduates. They talk about their programs of study, professors and how their education prepared them for their careers or further education.

Once you select a college, getting connected to your school, fellow students and faculty plays a large role in helping you feel comfortable and make the most of your time in college.

At Seneca, first-time college students can access the Student Mentoring in Life & Education (SMILE) program, which pairs new students with approved student mentors who provide support and guidance. Protégés are partnered with a mentor and the partnership usually lasts for two semesters.

Mentors in the SMILE program come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. To become a mentor in the program, students must be in good academic standing, have leadership experience, and a genuine desire to help others. Mentors complete 14 hours of intense training, which includes problem-solving, team-building, and communications exercises. For more information on the SMILE program, please visit www.senecac.on.ca/smile/.

As you move through your program and want to know what’s happening at your school, there are a number of electronic and social media outlets that can help. For example, Seneca’s Facebook and Twitter pages can link you to important news about programs, events, announcements, closures and/or openings, opportunities and allow you to share your experiences with fellow Seneca students.
