In the highly competitive job market, students need a plan in place if they want to get noticed by employers.  One of the best ways to set yourself apart from every other student out there is to secure part-time or summer jobs that relate to your field of study.  This way you build your experience, your skills, and your contacts in a position that is related to your degree.

At the University of Alberta almost every faculty offers some form of co-ops, internships, or work experience programs that students can take advantage of.  Some of these programs offer paid opportunities while others provide university credit and some provide both!

It is important to start planning and preparing for these opportunities well in advance, as the application process can be involved and competitive.  A great way to do this is to speak with your faculty advisor. A faculty advisor can help you discover the myriad of opportunities that exist for students who are interested in finding an internship and how to prepare for them. Alternatively, students at the University of Alberta can also contact the Career and Placement Services office, or CAPS, to find out more about work experience programs.

Some internships at the University of Alberta are faculty specific, but some are open to many faculties and offer students the chance to gain valuable international experience.  The University of Alberta International office can assist students who are interested in work and study experiences that are offered abroad.
