Coming to university is a big step in life – both academically and financially. If you don’t do your research, the cost of education can leave a big dent in your bank account, but University of Toronto Scarborough is here to help with $3.6 million worth of financial support! Here’s some information about our scholarships to ease your money-related concerns.

Entrance Scholarships
U of T Scarborough has a number of entrance scholarships for students applying to our campus! There are two different types: automatic consideration and application required scholarships.
Our automatic consideration scholarships are for students entering directly into their first year of a program; they don’t require an application and they’re based on academic performance.

Our application required scholarships take more information into account. The criteria for the scholarships can vary, and usually require one or more of the following: academic merit, community involvement, leadership activities, and/or financial need. Deadlines range from February 26 to March 3, 2011, so make sure to get your application in early! You can find the forms online.

UTAPS: University of Toronto Advanced Planning for Students
U of T has a unique program called UTAPS, which is a financial aid program for full time U of T students that are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons who are eligible for need-based government student assistance or funding from a First Nations band.

UTAPS does two very important things:
1. It can be used as a financial planning tool - it gives you an assessment of how much funding you could be getting from all forms of financial assistance
2. It provides additional grant assistance to students who are receiving OSAP (or other government student assistance) - if you’re still short on money to pay your university expenses, UTAPS can fill in any gaps with a grant. A grant is money given to you by U of T that you don’t need to pay back!

At U of T Scarborough, we do our best to help students out so going to university doesn’t break the bank.
