High school students don’t have to wait for their Grade 12 marks to know that they will receive a scholarship at Lakeland College.

With Lakeland’s Academic Excellence Scholarships, as soon as students know that their Grade 11 academic average is between 85 and 100 per cent, they should also know that they will receive a tuition credit between $1,500 to $3,500 when they apply to the university transfer, environmental sciences, business or educational assistant programs.

Lakeland College’s Academic Excellence Scholarships are awarded as:
$3,500 = 95% minimum average
$2,500 = 90% minimum average
$1,500 = 85% minimum average

To be eligible for the scholarships, high school students should send to Lakeland College’s Admissions Office a letter from their school showing their Grade 11 marks at the same time that they apply to an eligible Lakeland program.

During the three years that Lakeland has offered the Academic Excellence Scholarships, 86 students have received a total of $166,000 to help cover their tuition costs.

University transfer student Raisa Rybinski is one of the college’s 86 academic excellence scholarship recipients.
“I went to pay my tuition and I owed $79. I couldn’t believe it!” says Rybinski.

To qualify for the scholarships, students must submit their program applications by June 30, 2011. Applications can be made online at www.lakelandcollege.ca.

In addition to the Academic Excellence Scholarships, Lakeland College has an extensive financial aid and awards program and has access to a number of external awards.
