It’s that time of year again for high school students across the country.  The Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) is officially open and accepting applications for Fall 2011.  This is an exciting time for universities and often a stressful time for students.  Algoma University is here to help.

Prior to Applying
Be prepared!  That’s the number one recommendation of our Prospective Student Advisor Jenn Reid.  Prior to sitting down to fill out the online application (www.ouac.on.ca) students should print a hard copy of it and familiarize themselves with it.  This way you will know what information you will need to gather prior to completing the application form.  This alleviates the stress of trying to track down information during the application process.  “A lot of students become nervous when they don’t have the required data and they have to save their application before their internet browser times out” says Jenn.  Being familiar with the form prior to sitting down to complete it alleviates this pressure.

Applying
Everyone studying full-time with a September start has to apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) www.ouac.on.ca.  If you followed our tips and are familiar with the application process prior to filling out the form, this should be a painless process.   If you experience an unexpected glitch in your application, Jenn can help you.  She regularly walks students through the application process over the phone.  If you have any concerns about which program you should apply for or the best way to order your choices, give her a call.  Students are always welcome to make an appointment to fill out the application form in our office.

After you Apply
Algoma University prides itself on its quick turnaround time.  “We are able to evaluate most applications within 10 days of receiving the application” states Shelley Mitchell - Assistant Registrar, Admissions.  “We don’t like to keep students waiting. We let them know about admission and scholarships as quickly as possible.”

As applications arrive our Admissions Team immediately notifies applicants via email that we have received the application.  If there is any missing information the applicant is notified at this time.  Once a student is deemed admissible, an offer package is mailed out with “How to accept your offer” details as well as information on registering for courses and living in residence.

Algoma University is committed to providing current and future students with the best possible educational experience.  This extends to the application process.  If students or parents have any questions, let us know. We’re here to help.

Good luck with your application.
