Eva is a second year Neuroscience Student at the University of Toronto Scarborough.  This summer she worked as an Academic and Career Assistant with the campus’ Academic Advising and Career Centre (AA&CC).  Check out our interview with this Peer Counselor, to learn how you can ace your studies.

How useful are the Academic Advising & Career Centre Services at U of T Scarborough?
I’d definitely have to say that the AA&CC has helped me in navigating my way through university. If I ever needed some support or guidance about academia, or planning out my future, I booked an appointment with an Academic Advisor or Career Counselor and they were always available!

What kind of resources does the AA&CC offer students?
They offer many workshops and seminars to aid in improving study skills, including: “How to Ace Your Finals”, “Study Smarter, Not Harder”, “Extreme Time Management”, “Stop Procrastinating – Get Motivated!”, and many more. As well, most workshops include tip-sheets that are available at the Centre or online! Of course, Counselors are also available to meet with students for individual appointments.

Why did you choose to work there?
Being a student myself, I can truly empathize and understand the difficulties and obstacles students go through during their transition to university. At the AA&CC, I can give honest advice as a student, and offer real examples from my own personal experience.

What recommendations would you give to new university students?
Take advantage of the resources on campus – they are there to help you succeed! Ask lots of questions – it will help you make informed decisions! Attend workshops and seminars – you can learn so many useful tips to help you be successful in every aspect of your life!
