Columbia International College has been helping students discover and maximize their potential since 1979. Our graduates have enjoyed 100% university admission since 1995. Wondering what the secret is? A survey of our teachers, counsellors and students unearthed some of the best practices leading to our students’ success.

1. Good Time Management
Managing time wisely translates into high academic performance. It’s a good idea to draw up a timetable and/or use a daily planner to prioritize assignments by difficulty. Completing easier assignments first motivates you to tackle the harder ones. By staying on top of your work, you can be sure you’ll meet your deadlines.

2. Minimize Distractions
There is a time for everything. Facebook, cell phones, television and loud music can all sway one’s concentration when studying so it’s a good idea to find a quiet place away from these distractions.

3. Study All the Time
Developing a study routine is key. Good students regularly review their notes and so should you. This cuts down on the amount of studying you have to do for final exams and reduces stress.

4. Ask For Help
Students who ask questions in class, or get help from a tutor often get a lot more out of their learning experience. Speaking up and making sure you understand class material will help you earn top grades.

5. Attend Class
Teachers often test material covered in class so showing up on time and taking good notes will make it easier to study for quizzes and tests. Also, class participation is fun and makes time pass quicker!

Above all, the key to being a successful student is believing in yourself. Don’t put yourself down when something is challenging; understand your strengths and weaknesses, seek the required help and success will be yours!
