What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Grab a cup of coffee? Eat breakfast? Jump in the shower? According to a recent study released by Oxygen Media and Lightspeed Research, one-third of women aged 18-34 check Facebook when they first wake up – even before they get to the bathroom.

With young women becoming increasingly focused on social media as a communication tool – and Brescia being Canada’s premier women’s university – Brescia is determined to extend our reach on the web.

Just ask Christine Peet. She is the newest Brescia Blogger (http://bresciablog.com/), and she hasn’t even attended a university lecture yet. When Peet was researching universities she stumbled across previous Brescia blogs, authored by recent graduate Kate Bryant (‘10). As an avid reader of Bryant’s blogs, Peet presented a proposal to Brescia to hire her as the author of a new Brescia Blog, in which she would document her transition from high school graduate to Brescia student to Brescia alumna.

At Brescia University College, we strive to create a dialogue with our students and get them involved in our social media activities.

In April, Brescia released a series of nine YouTube videos designed to answer the most frequently asked questions about Brescia, and dispel myths about an all-girls’ university. Each video features Brescia staff members and students addressing “What is an all-girls’ school all about?”, “Leadership by example,” and “There are boys at Brescia.” Find out why boys want into Canada’s only all-girls’ university here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf7c4KlHj5c

Not only have we captured the attention of current and prospective students with videos and blogs, but one-third of Brescia’s total school population has joined the Brescia Facebook Fan Page http://goo.gl/yF5C. If you have a question about Brescia, the Facebook  Fan Page features multiple methods to get a real-time answer, including a live chat function, private messaging services, event registration, Flickr and YouTube galleries, a media room, and Brescia updates.

For quick updates, Brescia can also be followed on http://twitter.com/bresciauc.

So tomorrow, when you wake up and promptly check your Facebook, be sure to join the Brescia Facebook Fan page or read a Brescia blog, as well.
