Grenfell College offers students free career and summer job support through the Learning Centre

Grenfell College on Newfoundland’s beautiful west coast offers students free career and summer job support through the Learning Centre. The staff at the Learning Centre conduct workshops and sessions on resume writing, tips for job searches and how to conduct oneself in an interview, and provides examples of resumes for student consultation.

In a recent presentation, Lorna Payne, Learning Centre co-ordinator, offered these points:

As a student learning at an institution of higher learning, you are gaining:
 Problem solving skills
 Writing and research skills
 Organizational Skills
 The ability to be adaptable
 The ability to be trainable

For an idea of the kinds of jobs out there, students should consult:
• Student/summer job banks
• Job board and internet job postings on campus 
• City business directories
• Federal government employment centres/websites
• Provincial government employment centres/websites
