With summer basically here and your bank account dwindling, now’s the time to start searching (if you haven’t already!) for that summer job or even your dream internship. But, with other students doing the same - how do you stand out?

THE SUMMER JOB SEARCH
Whether you’re looking for a basic summer job or the opportunity to expand your knowledge about possible future careers, the Career Education Department at Thompson Rivers University can help.

There is still a long list of summer job postings on their website (www.tru.ca/careereducation/stuemploy), in addition to tips on how to apply and get the perfect-for-you job.

The first thing a prospective employer sees is your resume, so make it sparkle.  The Career Education Department offers great tips on this and also the newest trends in employment.  Visit www.tru.ca/careereducation/stuemploy, and click on the Students & Alumni tab.

MAKING CONNECTIONS FOR THE FUTURE
If you want something beyond the standard job, consider Co-operative Education (Co-op for short) – a formal way of gaining paid, practical, work experience in your field of study.  Plus, TRU students can now count work terms as elective credit!

Not only will Co-op provide you with insight into building resumes and professional development, it’ll get you out into a real workplace and give you the ability to network.  With province, country, and worldwide placements, you never know where it may lead you.

Co-op will not only help you as a student, but once you leave and spread your wings, employers the globe over will acknowledge the value a student graduating with Co-op can offer.  You’ll definitely be in the pick of the crop! Check out http://www.tru.ca/careereducation/coop.html.

TRU continues to accept applications all summer.  Visit www.tru.ca/apply.
