TRU’s Bachelor of Arts, Science, and Business degrees have an Open Admission policy, which allows the programs to accept applications right up until September.  So, TRU may be your ideal Plan B.

Open Admission means entry is not GPA-based and students aren’t competing to get in.  It also means flexible admission – while there are specific admission requirements for the Bachelor of Arts, Science, and Business programs, if students don’t meet all of them, they can still be admitted to the program.

To apply to TRU, visit www.tru.ca/apply.

In the case that a student is missing any of the required high school course requirements for one of these programs, they can upgrade those courses and enrol in first-year university courses at the same time.

For example, Math 12 is required for the Bachelor of Business, but a student lacking Math 12 can still be accepted. In their first semester while starting their first-year courses, they would also enrol in a course equivalent to Math 12 (such courses are offered through the TRU University Preparation department).

The flexibility of Open Admission also benefits students applying to competitive programs with limited seats.

Students interested in ultimately applying to programs like Natural Resource Science, Animal Health Technology, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Business Management, Police & Justice Studies, Digital Art & Design, Architecture Engineering Technology, or Tourism Management Diplomas don’t have to look far for a plan B if they don’t get in.

They can do a year in Arts, Science, or Business, then re-apply, getting a year’s worth of university experience and credit in the meantime.

And while some Grade 12 students are still on the fence, some Grade 11 students want to plan early. For a head start, TRU has a Grade 11 Early Application for 2011/2012. Students can apply to one of six programs a full year before they graduate.

Grade 11 Early Applications are available at www.tru.ca (deadline is June 15th, 2010).
