Students across the globe are preparing to complete undergraduate studies and deciding their next step in life. The question of financial assistance is critical to their pursuit of higher education. Those who plan to continue on for advanced degrees are researching scholarships and application processes to aid in their quest to attend the postgraduate program that best suits their needs. St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, in Grenada, West Indies, offers students an array of scholarships that can reduce tuition by up to 40%.

Scholarship preparation can begin as early as the year before undergraduate commencement ceremony. Students are encouraged to begin researching scholarships within the postgraduate programs where they intend to study. Depending on the requirements, some scholarships are awarded automatically to qualified students – others require application submission. Having a clear understanding of the requirements and deadlines allows students more time to gather criteria to ensure all necessary steps are taken into consideration.

St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine offers scholarship awards to both entering and returning students. The Office of Financial Aid determines the award recipients based on the guidelines set forth by the School’s Financial Aid Committee. These scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, financial need, and each scholarship’s specified criteria. To assist in planning, students are sent award letters before matriculation.

Many scholarships are available to St. George’s University veterinary students. They include the Legacy of Excellence Awards (partial tuition awards for students who demonstrate sustained academic excellence), the Veterinary Mentor Scholarship Program (scholarships for students who have been recommended by a practicing veterinarian who believes his or her protégé has shown academic excellence), Geoffrey H. Bourne Scholarships, Congress of Italian-American Organizations Scholarships, Stephen R. Kopycinski Memorial Scholarships, the Morris Alpert Legacy of Excellence Scholarship, and William M. McCord Scholarships (all named for and honoring early leaders of St. George’s University), Grenadian Scholarships (specific awards for Grenadian students), and International Peace Scholarships (partial grants-in-aid to promote a diverse student body).
