Financing Your College Education…

Financial planning is an integral part of preparing for postsecondary studies. Determining what your expenses and sources of income will be is just as crucial to a positive college experience as researching your intended program of study, visiting the campus, and meeting with academic personnel beforehand.

The key to affording a college education is to begin planning early!

Financing Your College Education…

At Cambrian College, we can help you with set up a financial success plan.  The most popular source of financial assistance that students receive comes from government loans such as the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), the Ontario Student Bursary Program (OSBP), and the Ontario Student Opportunity Grant (OSOP).  Cambrian students also have the option to work on-campus and we can even help you with your resume, cover letter, and interview skills to secure off-campus employment, too!  Also, the Cambrian Foundation administers over 400 scholarships, bursaries, and awards valued at over $350,000, including 60 entrance scholarships, each valued at $1,000.

No matter which postsecondary institution you choose, you’ll have three main expenses to consider:

1.    Tuition fees
2.    Incidental fees - books and supplies, and other program-specific costs
3.    Living expenses - accommodations, food, utilities, transportation, and personal living expenses (e.g. entertainment, clothing, trips home)

Many of these expenses will depend on your lifestyle and whether you choose to live at home, with family, in residence, or to rent an apartment alone or with a roommate.

Depending on the program you chose a typical academic year in college may cost between $4,500 and $5,500 for students living at home and between $11,000 and $13,500 for students living away from home.

So before you start packing your bags, you’d better think about how you’re going to pay for this exciting college expedition.

You should be able to find information on financial assistance, scholarships, and bursaries in secondary school guidance offices, in many social agencies, at chartered banks and credit unions, and in college financial aid offices.
