Do you want a career that will have you rushing onto a flaming industrial site? How about reclaiming land and protecting wildlife and its natural habitat? Maybe business, agriculture or health care is more your style.

Choosing a career is one of the biggest decisions that you’ll have to make. It’s important to research career options, requirements for training and post-secondary education, and fit with your own personal strengths, interests and goals.

For your career search, one of the best ways to start is a call to an enrolment officer at Lakeland College.

With campuses located at Lloydminster and Vermilion, Lakeland has been offering post-secondary education programs for almost 100 years. Since its early beginnings in 1913 as Alberta’s first agricultural college, Lakeland now serves 8,000 full-time and part-time students from across Canada in applied degree, diploma and certificate programs in agriculture, business, emergency services, environmental sciences, human services, health and wellness, interior design and trades, as well as university transfer and degree completion routes.

“We receive many inquiries from high school students and others from across Canada interested in working in a certain career field but who need help to determine the best post-secondary educational program,” says enrolment specialist Alicia Dyck. “At Lakeland, we work with these people and high school students one-on-one so that they are able to find the program that best suits their individual strengths, interests and goals.”

She also adds that the college welcomes people to be a “student for a day” and frequently holds program information sessions so that people can find out more detailed information about programs including completing full application and admission requirements, residence and more.

Equally important to finding the right post-secondary program, is finding the right post-secondary institution – one that is held in high regard by industries and employers for program quality, and one that graduates top quality new hires.

How does Lakeland College and its graduates fair in that regard? Very well, according to the results of 2009 survey of employers.

“The employment rate of Lakeland College graduates is over 93 per cent,” says Phil Allen, vice president of advancement. “Of the employers who have hired Lakeland grads, 98.9% of them would recommend Lakeland grads to other employers. This result speaks very highly to the caliber of our graduates and their level of professionalism and competency in the field. Our graduates do very well.”
