Last week, almost 500 TRU students received some financial assistance that will help them support their pursuit of post-secondary education.  Over $400,000, or about one-third of the total for all TRU award recipients this school year, was handed out at the Fall awards ceremony.  Read on to see how you, as a high school student, have the opportunity to get your hands on some of it.

Entrance Awards – For students who have never attended college or university
Still in high school? Get ready to apply for Entrance Awards, which are only for students who have never completed any post-secondary before (AKA you!).  At TRU, these awards are due by March 1st of your grade 12 year.  The highest award, the TRU Ambassador’s Entrance Scholarship, is $12,000 (at least eight are awarded), while at least 25 new students are awarded the TRU President’s Entrance Scholarship of $3,000.  These awards go to those students with the highest averages in their top five grade 11 academic subjects.
Other Entrance Awards include at least five $3,000 Leadership Entrance Scholarships as well as at least 25 $1,000 Community Service Entrance Scholarships.  To be eligible for these awards, students must have at least an 80% average and demonstrate participation in the above-mentioned activities.
Applications for the 2010 TRU Entrance Scholarships can be found at http://www.tru.ca/finaid/truentrancescholarship.html.

Ongoing Awards – For current TRU students
For students attending TRU, there are hundreds of awards handed out each year.  Scholarships are typically based on grades while bursaries are not based on your grades but rather financial need.  So be sure to figure out what you’re eligible for and take the time and effort to submit an application.  The deadline to apply for Ongoing Awards is the third Friday in September.  For more information on Ongoing Awards, visit http://www.tru.ca/finaid/awards.html. TRU is currently accepting applications for the 2010-2011 year.  Apply at www.tru.ca. Got questions or need more information about TRU programs?
